414 1777-1840 Entire letters comprising 1777 letters from Newchurch or Wolverton sent free to London, both with details of the number of inhabitants in the parish; 1835 letter written on the "Mermaid" and taken ashore by pilot, posted at Bembridge with boxed "No. 1" of the Ryde Penny Post; 1837 letter posted at Brading with boxed "No. 2" of the Ryde Penny Post; and 1836-40 letters written to or from (2) Samuel Wilberforce (rural Dean of Isle of Wight, later Chaplain to Prince Albert, Dean of Westminster, Bishop of Oxford) at Brightstone, the letter to Wilberforce posted free during the 4d Post Period with "To Pay 1d Only" of London. 419 Postal Stationery. 1889 1d Lettersheet produced by The Half-Price Closed Letter Co. Ltd., containing approximately 75 adverts, two large adverts for Bird's Custard Powder and "The Copper Washer" with illustrations, a letter written on the attached blank page, posted from Wroxall to Shaftsbury, small repair to the flap, otherwise fine. The first example we have seen of this multiple advertising lettersheet which was sold for ½d, unusually fine condition.
