376 1896 (Oct 18) Marlborough House S.W embossed postcard, both sides with a handwritten message from the Prince of Wales, "My Dear Mrs Thorp, I hope you will accept the accompanying small brooch & your husband the pin as a souvenir of "Persimmons" achievements on the Turf this year - I enjoyed my day shooting yesterday immensely & thanking you both for your kind hospitality, believe me, yours very sincerely Albert Edward". Also an 1896 mourning cover addressed in the Prince of Wales hand to "Thorp, Chippenham Park, Soham" with 1d lilac tied by London V.R hooded circle code "A", roughly opened with tear across address panel and part torn away at left. (2).

A most unusual cover, carried on the British Cunard packet "America" despite the endorsement "by United States contract mail packet", which evidently led to some confusion over the accountancy marks.
