1347 Ionian Islands. 1821 (June 24) Long entire letter from an army Captain, John Birtwhistle, at Argostoli, Island of Cefalonia, posted to England with partial "ISOLE / IONIE" handstamp and superb arc type "MALTA" (MSF-1c, a very early use), disinfection slits, charged 3/4. The letter contains news of the civil war in Greece, and the large numbers of refugees who have fled to the Ionian Islands.

1350 1853 (Mar 22) Letter from a gunroom officer on H.M.S "Rodney", written on printed notepaper headed with a fine engraving of H.M.S "Rodney" in a gale, unfortunately missing the outer address panel. The letter includes "This is very smart paper, it is of our first med. gale and I believe was originally done by a Bluejacket".
