1872 (July 31) complete editon of the 'Fiji Times' newspaper dated July 27 1872 franked 2c on 1d deep blue SG13a (Gartner type ii 's' below 't') tied by 'GPO/LEVUKA-FIJI' cds, some aging especially around edges. [All have some soiling that is greatly reduced with careful use of a soft eraser]

This & the next nine lots are from an important original find of issues of Fiji's first newspaper. In all cases the wrappers with the address have been discarded. However, at this time Fiji's stamps paid postage only to the first port of call. Given that all the papers were in a bound volume, and that some examples have the Fijian stamp obscured by a NSW stamp - see Lots XXX to XXX - it is probable that they were all sent to Sydney.
