1818-19 Outgoing and Incoming Mail with Italy, August 29, 1818 folded letter from Rio de Janeiro to Macerata, where it arrived on December 21, carried via Lisbon where the "Lisboa" oval handstamp was applied in transit, showing manuscript rates on front, representing one of the earliest, if not the earliest cover recorded from Brazil to Italy; September 10, 1819 folded letter from Montesanto, Italy, to Rio de Janeiro endorsed "Lisbona" in Italian denoting transit through Lisbon, with slits of disinfection and "720" reis in manuscript due on receipt, the earliest cover from Italy sent to Brazil, some toning as usually encountered in Brazilian postal history; a unique duo of great postal-history significance. #24, 1850 60r Black, vertical pair, some imperfections at right, tied to folded letter from Barra do Panema-Sergipe to Lisbon by "Sergipe" frame postmark, paying the single rate to Bahia within Brazil, with corresponding c.d.s. in transit at this city on front around 22 months after this letter was dated, then consigned to the "Pampero" of the "South American & General Steam Navigation Co.", with Lisbon entry and "160" due marking, rare Portuguese framed "Abatida" on its probably latest date of use, which was applied to letters that for any reason were removed from the remittance invoices for foreign mail, with postage to be paid by the recipient; a very rare franked mail with involvement of this navigation company.
