FAILED FRAUDULENT RE-USAGE OF 1856 4Sk ON COPENHAGEN COVER TO HOLBAEK; Remarkable 11 Dec. 1856 E from Copenhagen to Holbaek with obviously previously used 1856 4sk Dull Orange (fair margins and holed at foot - presumably when removed from another letter!) minutely tied by the top of the manuscript "Ugyldigt" ["Invalid"] with additional endorsement alongside; "Et tidligere benyttet Frimaerke. Kessebrev. Kjobenhavns Post ctr." ["A Previously used stamp - Box letter - Copenhagen Post Office"]. There is also a Copenhagen 'Clock' d.s. on the front with a red crayon "6[sk]" postage due charge; it was treated as an unpaid letter and so the 6sk rate applied rather than the prepaid 4sk rate. Very few examples of the attempted re-usage of a Danish Imperf. Issue on cover have been recorded. Very Rare. [Ex Gavin Fryer.] Cross Reference: POSTAGE DUE STAMPS & COVERS (Image)
