Penola/British Graham Land Expedition/Port Stanley/Falkland Islands/per/S.S. Lafonia from Montevideo", franked at 8s. for 1oz. rate by G.B. 1s. (8) with airmail etiquette, backstamped at Paris Apr. 17 prior to carriage on the S. America service which broke down at Dakar leading to transfer by sea to Montevideo with Apr. 26 transit from where carried on the "Lafonia" showing Port Stanley May 6 receiving c.d.s., the cover with punched filing holes but rare. Ex Cottis. Photo. Son of the headmaster of Dungannon Royal School, Surgeon Lieutenant Edward William Bingham (1901-1993) served as expedition doctor as well as being in charge of the dog sled teams. Antarctica: Early Expeditions: 1882 Transit of Venus, French Astronomical Missions to Patagonia, (July 11) four page explanation of the mission to Carmen, Patagonia under command of Henri Perrotin and the necessary movements of the vessels "La Bourdonnais" and "Villarino", submitted for approval by the Argentine Naval Minister, together with covering note, both written and signed by noted diplomat Charles Rouvier, charg̩ d'affaires at the French Legation in Buenos Aires, with official translations.

French Antarctic Expedition 1948-50: Expedition airmail envelope addressed to Expedition H.Q. in Paris bearing Terre Ad̩lie overprint 100f. tied by both "15 - 2/1949" and "1 - 20/1950" c.d.s.'s on both "Charcot" attempts, signed by expedition leader Andre-Frank Liotard with registration label, "BATIMENT POLAIRE/"Commandant Charcot"" cachet in red, circular pictorial 'Ouverture du Service Postal' and four line Expedition cachets, backstamped Hobart Feb. 23 and Sydney Feb. 25 1950.
