Sir Joseph James Kinsey (1852-1936), founder of the shipping firm of Kinsey, Barns & Co., was a close personal friend of Capt. Scott and had served as attorney for the “Discovery”, “Nimrod”, “Terra Nova” and “Aurora” relief expeditions, in recognition of which he was awarded the Scott Medal by the R.G.S. in 1914 and a knighthood in 1919.
