Addressed to Mrs Bowers, mother of Lieut H.R.Bowers who perished with Scott on their return from the South Pole a few weeks later. Scarce commercial & authentic use of this stationery & stamp. RARE DUBLIN "D" MARK; Dec. 1719 EL (faults & repaired tear) to London with encircled "D" of Dublin and London Bishop marks on rear. Rated '6'(d) on front. Only a few examples of this mark are known on mail from Dublin to or via London - they are thought to be the precursor of the "DUBLIN" handstamps of 1720-87.
