Collection / Exhibit of 11 Covers / Cards Flown on Imperial Airways Survey Flights for Airmail in Africa, 1925-1927, all neatly written-up on exhibit pages. Includes a 1925 survey flight card flown London to Cape Town and mailed at Cape Town to Pretoria, signed on the back by Alan J. Cobham. Also, JAN.2.1926 R.A.F. trial flight cover flown Cairo to Khartoum, as well as 2 return flight covers flown Khartoum with 1 cover pilot signed. Also 3 East Africa flight covers, Kisumo, Kenya to Sudan, Nairobi to England and Nakura to England, all mailed early Feb. 1927. Also a scarce MAR.12.1927 Lake Victoria crash cover and a March 10 cover and a March 8 Dublin, Ireland postcard for the ongoing service to East Africa. By the time they arrived in Cairo, news of the Lake Victoria crash caused both to be sent on from Egypt by surface means. Also includes a 1930 Ministry report on the England - South Africa air service. All very fine except the crash cover, which is still in excellent condition all things considered. 1931-1965 Group of 22 Flight / Air Mail Covers, includes a 1937 Mocambique cover to South Africa, a 1932 Southern Rhodesia cover to England, three Zanzibar 1937 Empire air mail covers to Kenya and Tanganyika, three Nyasaland covers including a 1934 to Southern Rhodesia and two 1935 flight covers to Portuguese East Africa. Also 8 East Africa 1932 first flights to England, Sudan, Uganda, Tanganyika and South Africa (one is oversize with major opening faults). Also a faulty 1935 Kenya cover to Canada with air mail "jusqu'a" London., a 1937 Kenya to South Africa cover and finally a 1965 Kenya to United States Pan Am cover. Includes a booklet on Nigeria Air Mails. One cover has a fold, rest are overall fine to very fine. (Image)

1934 England to Australia Mac Robertson Air Race Unofficially Carried Covers, by Roscoe Turner and Clyde Pangborn in a Boeing 747-D aircraft and by J.D. Hewitt, C.E. Kay and F. Stewart in a DH89 Dragon Rapide. Cover signed by pilot C.E. Kay. There was a label placed over the address, which has left a stain when this cover was flown again in a London to Sydney air race. Some minor creasing on both covers, still very fine. (Image)

1919 Postage Due Adelaide to Minlaton Special Souvenir Aerial Postcard, with a printed message, unsigned and unnumbered. Unfranked on picture side and has a 3d Postage Due stamp with a blur crayon manuscript cancel. The card was flown by Capt. Harley Butler, cancelled at Minlaton on AUG.7.1919 (squared circle). Some creasing and other minor faults, purchased at a major English auction house for £1,100 in 2013. (Image)

1914 First Official Air Mail Special Card, Mailed at Melbourne on July 16, and flown to Sydney. The total flying time was just over 9.5 hours, with stops at Seymour, Wangaratta, Albury, Wagga, Harden, Goulburn and Liverpool. Arrived at Sydney in the afternoon of July 18th. About 1,780 pieces were carried, still this is a seldom seen or offered pre-WWI card. Heavy fold at left, resulting in tears at top and bottom. (Image)

Collection of 91 Signed Covers on Airmail Related Souvenir and First Day Covers, 1970s-On, includes 10 oversize (12½ x 9 inches) covers from Jersey highlighting military medals to Air Crew, with 7 per cover and all 7 signatures. Covers were all flown, and 14 have the pilot's signatures as well. There are also 72 souvenir First Day and flown covers, all signed by military members, politicians, etc. We noted the signatures of John Kenneally V.C., Tony Blair, James Callaghan, Vera Lynn, John Major, Betty Boothroyd and more. Collection / Exhibit of 1931 Imperial Airways England to East Africa First Flight Covers, with 55 covers neatly written-up on exhibit pages. Includes covers from England (x13), Ireland (x1), Belgium (x1), Austria (x1), Greece (x2), Egypt (x10), Sudan (x13), Kenya (x9), Uganda (x2) and Tanganyika (x3). Note 8 registered covers, including one using a Sudan registered postal stationery envelope. Egypt and Sudan being the mid-route refueling points have mail travelling in both directions. Note a scarce Nairobi, Kenya to Bombay, India registered flight cover. Also noted a Scott # C1 on one of the Egypt covers. One cover has a vertical fold at center and a few more have minor edge or corner faults, still a very fine and quality collection. All pages are scanned online. (Image)
