EGYPT, 1919 Emergency Air Mail Service Covers Selection, 8 unfranked OHMS covers on fully annotated exhibit type pages, all with assorted military markings and postmarks including several of the scarce boxed "AERIAL POST / E.E.F.", includes a letter to the Military Infectious Hospital at Choubra, to the officer commanding the 92nd Sanitary Section in Kantara, to the Controller of Munitions in Karachi, Heliopolis to Bir Salem Palestine with POW cachet, , etc., some typical postal wear incl reused envelopes, Fine and scarce (AAMC 9)rnThe refusal of the British government to receive in London the Egyptian politician Saad Zaghlul, the head of the Wald Party, and his eventual deportation to Malta led to widespread civil disturbances throughout Egypt. To service the large contingent of British troops stationed in the country and in Palestine, the RAF conducted emergency air mail service for Official Mail from March 17-May 4 1919. Only about 120 covers are thought to exist for the 48 days this service was in effect.rn (Image)
