Tonga 1895 2½d, 5d, 7½d George II. Mint. Gum adhesions on 5d, & 7½d. SG 33, 34b, 35. Cat £100.

Tonga c1930 3d reg'd envelope, red on cream, oval ringed "R THREE PENCE" at left, red arms on flap. Example PU to Germany with Haapai cds 31 MR 31 on 2d Queen Salote adhesive, with also good oval h/s (blue) "REGISTERED / HAAPAI TONGA". Transit b/s of Suva, Fiji (8 APR) & Hasselfelde cds 9.5.31. Surprisingly fast transit. Unfortunately, another adhesive removed (not damaging the paper surface). Small flap deficit, otherwise fine. H&G 20 (undated), unpriced used. Scarce item.

Tonga 1930 long cover to Director of Education, Pago Pago, American Samoa, franked horiz pair 1d Tree, canc fine "NIUAFOOU" lined obliterator (undated). At left, h/s "U.S. Naval Eclipse Expedition, Niuafoou, Tonga, 21 October 1930", "Tin Can Mail" & boxed "Niuafoou". All markings in violet. Fine & scarce.

Tonga 1931 cover to USA franked 1d, 3d Pictorials, canc 2 x Nukualofa cds 12 JE 31. Pictorial "Mailed at Tin Can Island" cachet (black) added later by dealer AC Roessler (ie: fake cachet purporting to be from Niuafoou Island). Two address labels added over original address (AC Roessler!) Fine.

Tonga 1937 Tin Can Mail cacheted long cover ex "Maunganui" 6 September voyage.

Tonga 1941 long PPC (Queen Salote, island scene & distant ship, text "Via Tin-Can Mail, Tin-Can Island, Tonga" etc). Picts x 3 (½d, 2d, 3d) canc Nukualofa (ie: not posted Niuafoou Isl). With fine red cachet of Tongan flag. Addressed "H.E. Sir Harry Luke KCMG, Government House, Suva, Fiji" (no receipt b/s). Nice condition.

Tonga 1944 1d-1/- Queen Salote Jubilee, reg'd FDC to NZ (large Pim & Co cover) with set of 5 canc 4 strikes of NIUAFOOU TONGA cds incorrectly dated "12 JA 44" (1st day was officially 25 JA 44). Nukualofa regn label. No less than 18 diff Tin Can Mail cachets on front & back. Probably only a small number of such wrongly dated FDCs were processed. Fine.

Tonga c 1970 "Tonga Government Telegraphs/Telegram" printed window envelope. Fine unused. Also specimen telex message on form (with same imprint at sides). Unusual lot.
