1689, King Carlos II signed letter, with full intact wafer seal on reverse, from Madrid to "A muy Padre Cardenal Coloredo mi mui charo y mui amado Amigo," signed "Yo El Rey", unobtrusively restored minor split to paper fold, an overall fresh and fine letter in superior quality to what is often found.

King Carlos II of Spain (1661-1700), was the last Habsburg ruler of the Spanish Empire; Leandro Coloredo was created Cardinal in 1688 by Pope Innocent XI and had been, shortly before this letter was sent, participating in the conclave of 1689 in Venice, at which Cardinal Pietro Vito Ottoboni was elected as Pope Alexander VII.
