Grant, President of the United States, signed for the President by Hamilton Fish, Secty of State, a May 19 1875 document in Samoan language with official seals signed by the head of the Great Malietoa House and by George A. Norris Lieut. USA, also two October 31 1875 documents from A.A. Steinberger with 1875 colorless embossed seal on each as PREMIER, first naming his son the "...duly authorized agent of the Kingdom of Samoa..." and the second document to "His Majesty Kalakaua King of Hawaii" authorizing his son John A. Steinberger to "diplomatic power to negotiate a treaty of which he is the bearer". Last are three envelopes, all stained, one "to, Jno A Steinberger, Present", one to Lieut. Geo. Norris, U.S.S. 'Tuscarora'" and last addressed to "Lieut George A. Norris, USN, Bearer of Despatches from the Government of Samoa, USS Tuscarora, Honolulu", this large envelope with printed indicium "Department of Foreign Affairs, On His Hawaiian Majesty's Service", an extremely rare authentic slice of American, Samoan and Hawiian history, condition is excellent due to good quality of paper but does bear many stains, a UNIQUE and Historical group.
