RARE Civil War Provisionals produced in the town of Gdov, on the Estonian border, during the Army of the North's occupation of the area in May, 1919; locally produced with simple text "Temporary Postage Stamp of the Liberated Areas," 30 kopecks on orange paper and 1 ruble on green paper, black control stamp applied; these were available for only a few days, none are known used; Incl Rossica journal No. 15 (1934) which has an article on these stamps and census of 6 sets (1 in Brazil, 5 in Estonia); handwritten notes of original owner (Rossica member in Harbin, China) give updated census of 7 sets which includes these two stamps; little more is written of these aside from an article in the British Journal of Russian Philately (1988) and a mention in Estonia Philately Handbook by Hunt & Ojaste (copies included); NGAI VF (Image)
