1841 (Aug. 17) Halifax N.S. to Bermuda. Datelined folded letter with "Halifax, Nova-Scotia, Aug 17, 1841" rimless cds and manuscript "4" rating for 4d cy. packet rate, additional "7d" rating; small erosion role, Very Fine.
Estimate; $150 - 200.

From 1765, the packet postage between Halifax and Bermuda was 4d. stg. Any inland postage was separate. From December 5th 1842, the rate was per ½ oz.

On the introduction of decimal currency the packet rate became 8½¢. On May 1st 1862, the rate from Halifax increased to 10¢ and prepayment became compulsory.

The Greene certificate mentions the 6d is the dark green shade, which is the Scott listed 6d blue green shade variety. This cover was prepaid at the 9d rate to the West Indies with 4d (6d cy.) credit.
