1847, complete folded letter cover from LIMA, dated Oct. 23th 1847, sent to Genova in Italy. On the frontside red 3-line maritime postmark "VIA / DI MARE / (A)", which was only used to label transatlantic mail from South America. According to Lloyd's List the letter was carried by steamer "Apolo", which left Callao at Oct. 24th 1847 and arrived at Genova at 25th Feb. 1848. Cover with traces of usage in fine condition. 1854, stampless folded letter cover with blue single circle dater "LIMA / MAI 2 / 54", along with boxed "VAPOR" maritime handstamp, addressed to Nazca. Originally rated with blue taxation mark "3" (reales), superimposed by a blue "star-shaped" handstamp and rate changed by addition of two different blue "2" (reales) tax markings. Fine condition.
