In 1883, Colombia issued a new registration stamp that was used in Panama until 1888. Domestic registration was not widely used and very few non-philatelic usages have survived. A RARE COMBINATION USE OF THE 1887-88 AND 1892-96 STAMP ISSUE.

This was a double rate cover franked with 30¢ instead of the correct 20¢. The "1695" to the left of the stamps indicates 16.95 grams. The double rate is 15 to 30 grams, whereas the triple rate is over 30 grams but less than 45 grams. Both of these stamps were on sale at the Panama post office at the time of the mailing, since the 1892-96 20¢ value was not issued until January 1, 1895. Est. $400-600 (Image)
