AUSCHWITZ & DACHAU 'STAMP' & COVER COLLECTION: Binder with group of scarce covers incl. 30 Nov. 1941 printed enclosure (with crease) inscribed "Konzentrationslager Auschwitz" with d.o.b., camp no. & name of Josef Michalek, and similar enclosure inscribed "Konzentrationslager Dachau 3 K" dated 10 May. 1942, message written in German (as was mandatory) from Bronislaw Kowalski. Fine. Also, rare (but with minor damage) Delivery Certificate for a letter, with Luzk (Ukraine) 20 Nov. 1941 c.d.s., 23 Oct. 1943 printed letter sheet from Dachau to Litzmannstadt (Lodz) Ghetto and 19 Dec. 1944 incoming letter to Litzmannstadt (Lodz) Ghetto from Potthorst, Western Poland. Rare thus. Lot also includes 3 different mini sheets, one dated 1 Nov. 1945 inscribed "1.11.1945 POLISH COMMITTEE DACHAU-ALLACH" and sold to raise funds for Polish Red Cross, another (25 x 25pf blue) inscribed "1.8.1945" (6 covers plus 3 mini sheets).Cross Reference: MILITARY - P.O.W. FEB. 1920-1930 STAMP & COVER COLLECTION: Album with the well-researched and written up collection. Detailed studies throughout of Postage, Official & Postage Due types with printing, paper types, watermarks & perf. variations clearly identified. Examples of usage on cards and covers included wherever relevant. The 1921-23 'Peace Treaty' & 1924 New Currency issues covered in great depth, noting printers' proofs of the latter. Lot includes the scarce 1925 'National Fund' set of 11 very fine mint, SG 230/240, also 1927 Chopin mint (3 shades) SG 261. Other better 1920s sets include the 1928 Warsaw Philatelic Exhibition mini sheets mint SG MS270 (£550 each), two examples, an early 'clean' cut perf. and a later roughly perforated one. 1943 HANS FRANK 'WANTED' POSTER: Gummed leaflet, c.165mm x 240mm, neatly folded, dropped by the US Air Force over Warsaw in 1943. A propaganda 'Wanted' poster for Hans Frank, Nazi Governor-General of Poland. Only a handful of these leaflets are known to have survived. Rare and unusual. WWII GERMAN MADE ANTI-BRITISH PROPAGANDA CARDS: Two postcards, one depicting a cartoon of Winston Churchill, the other a cartoon of Neville Chamberlain (this card appearing to be cut down). Each inscribed "Wert Keinen Pfennig" (Worth not a penny) and unaddressed. The Churchill card bears General Govt. 1z + 2z grey (Lemburg) SG 464 with 26 Dec. 1943 Cracow special h/s. The Chamberlain card bears Gen. Govt. 4z slate-violet with same cancel (NB This stamp was issued 10 Apr. 1943, NOT 10 Apr. 1944 as stated in SG catalogue). Both fine and unusual with Gen. 1945-50 COVER COLLECTION: Album with the well presented and written up collection of mainly used Postal Stationery and covers. We note 10 Feb. 1945 postcard from Konskie to Poznan bearing single 12gr violet Hitler Head optd. "POCTZA/POLSKA". Scarce thus. Several philatelic Polish Army in Italy/Monte Cassino & General Anders covers plus a 'mini sheet' with Polish FPO No. 139 cancel; various 1946/47 frankings of commemorative issues on Regd./Air Mail covers, then a fine mostly used range of illustrated Postal Stationery cards (Warsaw Belvedere types, many uprated) and Feb. 1948 "Three Battling Eagles" types featuring literary figures, musicians, artists, etc. (22 different). POLISH FORCES INTERNED 1940-42: A beautifully presented and well written-up 7 page display of mail to/from Polish servicemen in internment camps in Switzerland, Romania, Hungary, and Germany inc. a 1940 PPC from Szombathely to the USA with a v. fine boxed "ELLENORIZVE" censor handstamp (under a v. fine cds), a 1941 env. from Kiskunlachaza to Poland with a v. fine "BELLIGERANT INTERNEE/SANS TAXE" handstamp, a v. fine field postcard addressed to the USA with a v. fine boxed "STALAG IVA/18/Gepruft" handstamp, and a 1942 Red Cross letter (with env. censored in Bermuda) enclosing an acknowledgement from a POW. POLISH FORCES IN FRANCE 1940: A beautifully presented and well written-up 10 page display of mail to Polish service men stationed in France and marked with ms "FM" (6) or a boxed handstamp of "FRANCHISE MILITAIRE". Also includes a set of mint and used French stamps perforated "WP" (Wojsko Polskie) produced by Aleksander Stocki supposedly for use on this mail, a souvenir sheet of labels produced to commemorate the departure of Polish troops in 1940, and an original ORDRE DE MISSION dated 24 May 1940. POLISH FORCES IN SCOTLAND 1940-46: A beautifully presented and well written-up 30 page display of mail to and from Polish service men stationed in Scotland with a variety of Polish Corps & FPO cachets inc. a 1941 registered env. from Aberfeldy (the postmarks and registration label ineffectively obscured by the censor's blue pencil) to Winterthurn franked with an 8d KGVI stamp, sealed with British & Swiss censor tape, with 2 fine red boxed "Zuzustellen / Feldpostdirektion" handstamps & with an orange label with the bilingual wording "Leitzettel - Etiquette d'acheminement/Cartellino d'avviamento/Feldpost/P.Camp/Winterthur"; a postcard posted on 4 DE 43 in Peebles to an internee in Switzerland redirected from Elgg to Meilen franked 2½d for air mail to Lisbon then sent via Germany to Winterthur with a faint British "PASSED/T451" censor mark, a mainly fine red circular "Oberkomando der Wehrmacht/[eagle & swastika]/ ?", a red rectangular boxed Swiss "Zuzustellen / Feldpostdirektion" & a v. fine Camp militaire d'internement *Swiss* / France de Port/Winterthur [cross]"; a spectacular long registered env. from Edinburgh to USA franked with the transatlantic air mail rate of 1/3d for ½oz. made up of pairs of ½d, 1d, 1½d, 2d & 2½d KGVI stamps cancelled with "*POLSKA POCZTA POLOWA*/No. 1/30 VIII 1943/No. 1" large cds; plus 2 Airgraphs (1 illustrated), PPCs, and Polish Red Cross labels. A fine and interesting tribute. Also included are 14 loose envs. in poor condition posted from Poland to Scotland, mainly during 1946 (some reg. and / or with censurship hs). POLISH AIR FORCE & NAVY IN EXILE 1941-45: A beautifully presented and well written-up 16 page display of mail to/from Polish servicemen stationed in the UK showing a variety of official cds and cachets of Polish corps and FPOs on envs. & postcards (some philatelic), inc. a very unassuming env. sent from Dumfries to France by air mail (via Lisbon) postmarked 1 Jan 1941 but with a return address to the organizational centre of the Polish air force in Blackpool (a little knowledge goes a long way when collecting postal history!); a well redirected env. from Poland to the UK postmarked 6 Nov. 1945 with a v. fine boxed "R.A.F. POST ROOM/11 DEC 1945/WICK" hs and a redirection label; an env. with a set of the London issue stamps posted from Nigeria on 23 February 1942 with a "POLSKA MARYNARKA/AGENCJA POCZTOWA" hs for agency "03" assigned to MS Batory; an env. with a set of the London issue of stamps overprinted "MONTE CASSINO/18.V.1944" postmarked "POLSKA MARYNARKA/7 VI 1944 25/[ship]/AGENCJA POCZTOWA" sent from the submarine ORP Sokol; plus others for equally interesting senders or recipients. 1ST & 2ND CORPS (BRITISH LIBERATION ARMY & MIDDLE EAST) + POLISH RESETTLEMENT CORPS 1943-48: A beautifully presented and well written-up 24 page display of mail to/from Polish servicemen serving with the BLA showing a variety of official cds, censor marks, and FPOs on envs. inc. an unusual Belgian-Polish folded tribute card with a French language summary of Polish history and a map of Poland dated 1 January 1945 with a "FIELD POST OFFICE/31" ds over ms "on active service" and v. fine "PASSED BY/CENSOR/No./1027" crown & shield hs addressed to Lieutenant Stocki in Edinburgh; a spectacular registered airmail env. franked 2/6d with a variety of GB stamps + Zl.1.50 London issue addressed to USA with "POCZTA POLOWA/13.1.43/115" cds (Polish HQ, Palestine), "CENZUROWA/115/EXAMINED BY CENSOR", "DEPUTY CHIEF FIELD/[crown]/CENSOR", and red crayon "VIA PAN AMERICAN/CLIPPER" on front, and a variety of transit & arrival marks on back; an Air Letter franked with 50c in KGVI KUT stamps and postmarked April 1948 with a mostly v.fine "POLISH REFUGEE/MAGINDI" to the UK (redirected); plus other items to Switzerland, Kenya & Palestine. The display outlines the application of censorship on internal mails & telegrams (inc. telegram converted from a telex message) with fine red or blue boxed "OCENZURAWANO" (2 sizes) and circular "URZAD/[number]/CENZURY" Censor Office handstamps, on mail to / from overseas countries (red boxed handstamps), red boxed "NIE/CENZURAWANO" not censored handstamps, and red boxed "WOLNE/OD CENZURY" free from censorship handstamps.
