Panama: 1908 picture postcard from Ceylon, addressed to Panama, franked by 6cts carmine tied by Diyatalawa cds for OC 21, carried aboard the ''S.S Finance'' which collided with the ''S.S. Georgic'' in dense fog close to Sandy Hook, New York and sank, bearing type 2 label inscribed ''The piece of mail herewith was recovered from the wreck of the steamer Finance, which was sunk through collision with Steamer Georgic, Thursday, Nov 26, 1908", backstamped by Colon arrival mark for Dec 10 in violet, very rare, with less than twenty items recorded ? ? The ''S.S. Finance'' carried 771 sacks of mail, however there is only one reported mail bag salvaged by a passing tug boat. The collision with the ''S.S. Georgic'' caused fatal damage to the Finance tearing a great hole on the starboard side and funnel resulting in the loss of three passengers and one crew member to the sea. (Image)
