Holyland. Hejaz Railway mail: 23-7-1911(?) commercial cover on official French-language Hedjaz Railway stationary of the operations manager of the HAIFA (Syria) branch to DRESDEN, transmitted by the Austrian Post & franked 40 Para (=1 Piaster) per period overseas letter rate using pair 1908 Emperor's Jubilee stamps (Ba 65) tied by 2 strikes of local Austrian Post Office postmark (Ba 115). Beyond final station in Damascus, probably ongoing transmitted via sister service Berlin-Baghdad Railway from Aleppo to Germany. Slit open at top, very fine; Albert Matl certified. Rare confirmed railway transmission. Addressee Hugo Hausshalter appears to have invented a speed-measuring and distance-recording device.
