POSTAL HISTORY: 1914 plain postcard with 'FELD.../nur für die Wehrabteilung und/für die Expeditionstruppe' handstamp & large-part very fine strike of the Rabaul mailbag seal both in violet, a bit knocked-about with overall soiling, minor bends & a heavy central fold that has been reinforced, unused. [When War was declared, no suitable military stationery was available so this provisional expedient was resorted to. This card appears to have folded to fit in a soldier's breast-pocket.
