1798-1839 Documents (2) and letters (3) comprising 1798 and 1812 legal documents from the French Occupation period with "GOUV DES ISLES IONISE / 15 CTS" tax handstamp depicting the French Eagle, or "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE / MUNICIPALITE / ZANTE" cachet; 1827 entire from Trieste to Corfu with oval Corfu arms datestamp; 1835 entire letter from Zante to Corfu with datestamps of both places; and 1839 entire letter prepaid from London to a soldier at Zante with arrival datestamp. 1859 (Oct 15) Entire from Corfu to Zante bearing Ionian Islands ½d orange (three margins, touched at left) and 1d blue (four margins) cancelled and tied by three strikes of oval framed "FRANCA", a "CORFU" c.d.s on the front. Three "John F. Seybold, Syracuse, N.Y" cachets on reverse and a light vertical fold, otherwise fine and an extremely rare cover with good provenance. Very few covers are known with both the ½d and 1d in combination, or indeed with these stamps tied by a cancel, and both stamps tied to a cover is exceptional.
