Feb. 1808 EL (in French; full typed translation) from a French sailor to his father in Clamecy with a fine greenish-black "POSTA/CORFU/SETTINSULARE" mark nicely placed on the front, charged "15 [decimes]" with a fair claret-red boxed Naples transit mark. The letter includes; "After being at sea for 13 days we have arrived here... we ran into a fierce storm and by daybreak we had lost some masts... from the 3-decked flagship... the Admiral changed ship and went aboard the 'Magicien'... to search for 4 large vessels and 2 smaller boats which were missing. I'm in charge of all the repairs... Send my mail either to Corfu or to Naples, on which this island depends." Good early French Occupation letter. ZANTE 1817/20 - COVERS TO CORFU WITH LARGE RED 2-RING "ISOLA/DI ZANTE" MARKS - "Free" OR WITH "FRANCA" - 20 Dec. 1817 EL with partly fine red 2-ring "ISOLA/DI ZANTE" but also with mainly v., fine blue-green Corfu boxed "FRANCA" partly overstruck by large part fine matching 2-ring "ISOLE/IONIE"; plus 5 Jan. 1820 EL (in English; some light toning and internal faults) endorsed "Con un Paccheto consegnato al Capt. D. Plarino" (contents reveal this was sample of cloth for sale) with two overlapped fine to v. fine large red 2-ring "ISOLA/DI ZANTE" marks with "Free" in the centre of one.
