1814/1922, PREPHILATELIE: Early documents from the first free Latin American state of Haiti, created on January 1, 1804 in the former French colony of Saint-Domingue. There are 18 documents from the years 1814 to 1922, 12 of them from presidents (partly multiple) and 6 generals or officials, mostly with corresponding letterheads and original signatures. The signatories were predominantly former slaves who founded the independent state and now held high government positions. Presidents are represented: Alexandre Sabès Pètion (1807-1818), Jean-Pierre Boyer (1818-1843), Fabre Geffrad (1859-1867), Michel Domingue (1874-1876), Lysius Salomon (1879-1888), Cincinnatus Leconte (1911-1912), Oreste Zamor (1914), Philippe Sudré Dartigueeenave (1915-1922). Generals and officials are represented: Hériston Hérissé, Esme Parret, Prud'homme Lecorps, R. Duperval, Constantin Ancion and J. Normil Théodore. All in all a probably unique collection, which is both post-historically and historically of import (Image)
