FRIGATE JYLLAND COMMEMORATIVE COLLECTION, 1974-1991 19-, 75 total items, primarily issues from 19080s, inclu. post cards, covers, commemorative pages, nice caches, light duplication, signatures from captains, postmasters, Frigate Jylland is a Danish wooden warship (full wooden hull), that is also a screw-propelled steam frigate and has sails. She is one of the largest in the world. Her first launch was on November 20, 1860 and was commissioned on May 15, 1862. She was a part of the Second War of Schleswig against the Austrian-Prussian fleet in the Battle of Heligoland on 9 May 1864. Jylland along with two other ships bested two Austrian frigates and three small Prussian gunboats, but was unable to maintain the blockade of the Prussian North Sea ports. Jylland sustained considerable damage during the battle. She was decommissioned in 1908 and now resides as museum ship in Ebeltoft, Denmark. Jylland is the last surviving screw frigate.
