Rear additionally inscribed '1/4'(d) possible for a bundle of letters to the addressee plus an additional strike on a 7 May 1848 OHMS EL to Scotland ex Dublin used latterly to indicate a double rate unpaid charged - apparently not entitled to free postage. RARE "AMERICAN MAIL/1/-" ALL-IN-ONE MARK OF DUBLIN; 23 July 1856 stampless EL 'per Africa' (repressed & slightly cleaned) to Dublin ex NY having a mostly fine large "5/N. YORK BR. PKT." c.d.s. on the front beside a rare Dublin "AMERICAN MAIL/AU 4/1856/1/-" mark. This mark was one of the few ever used in the 19th century that incorporated the date, wording and charge-mark all in one handstamp.
