ANTILLAS DANESAS. 1869 (15 Nov.). DANISH WEST INDIES. SANTANDER (Spain) to CARUPANO (Venezuela). Circulated with two 200 mils. green stamps tied by grill cancel. Letter circulated in the steam mail ´Guipuzcoa´ of Antonio López Company from Cádiz to La Habana (arrival on December 18th). The letter was embarked on the Spanish Steam ´Moctezuma´ where the SPANISH MAIL PACKET mark was placed by the Agent of the British Mail who traveled aboard. This steam left on December 20th (same date as the datestamp) from La Habana heading to Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. In St. Thomas was detained by the British Postal Agency and the mark Nª 2498 / DETAINED FOR POSTAGE was applied and the addressee was notified to pay the postage of 4d. so the letter could be forwarded. OUTSTANDING PIECE, very few letters known with datestamp from the Spanish Mail Packet and this is the only one we know coming from an European country. Cert. COMEX. (Image1)
