Mostly used collection with some presentable Imperfs, Perf 14-15½ range to 2/-, No Wmk 9d, First CC Wmk to 2/-, DLR 3d (unused), Second CC Wmk to 2/- x2 (one unused with part-og), 1872-80 CC to 96c including 2c Perf 14x12½, 4c rosy mauve mint & 36c with the Watermark Reversed, lots of Surcharges with 1885 to 56c on 96c including 5c on 36c (unused), Perf 14x12½ 10c on 64c (unused) & 1r12c on 2r50c, Perf 14 1r12c on 2r50c SG 193, 1890 5c on 15c with Inverted 's' in 'Cents' SG 233h, 1899 2r50c, 1r50c on 2r50c & 2r25c on 2r50c, 1899-1900 'SPECIMEN' set (mostly with large-part o.g.), a page of 'On Service' Overprints, etc, some mint including KEVII 1902 1r50c & 2r25c, 1904-05 set and KGVI Pictorials simplified set, etc, generally fine to very fine but the earlies are rather mixed & have not been "lamped" by us. An excellent basis for serious expansion.

Ex-dealer's stock predominantly used with strength in QV issues from 1860s including 1887 64c brown, 1885 Surcharges 'Value in Words' 5c on 24c green, 5c on 48c rose x2, 5c on 96c grey, 10c on 64c brown, 20c on 32c slate & 1r12c on 2r50c x3 and 'Value in Figures' 15c on 16c yellow * & 1r12c on 2r50c x2 one with fine 'PARCEL POST' cds, 1899 2r50c purple/red and '2R.25C' on 2r50c yellow, also 1912 KGV to 10r plus 20r * (short perf) plus range of KGVI and QEII issues, postmark interest also, condition mixed but many fine.

1946 commercial airmail cover from Holland to a member of "Force 136/Colombo Ceijlon" with boxed 'OAT' h/s in red, minor blemishes. [The rate was 12½c per 20gm + air surcharge of 40c per 5gm x2 = 92½c. During WWII, Force 136 was a group of Dutch resistance fighters who operated in the Dutch Indies behind Japanese lines]

COLOMBO: straight-line 'COLOMBO' (Oxley Type 2; Proud #PS1 - recorded 20.8.1815 to 3.8.1816 only) in red over straight-line 'FREE' (Oxley Type 2pf; Proud #OPD2 - recorded 3.8.1816 only) in black, light but clear strikes on tiny OHMS entire endorsed "Colombo 19th May 1817", to "Revenue Agent/Kandy". [Ted Proud had no example of either postmark in his collection]
COLOMBO: straight-line 'COLOMBO' (Oxley Type 2; Proud #PS1 - recorded 20.8.1815 to 3.8.1816 only) in red over straight-line 'FREE' (Oxley Type 2pf; Proud #OPD2 - recorded 3.8.1816 only) in black, very fine & superb strikes on large-part OHMS outer endorsed "Pay Department Colombo/the tenth of March 1817", to "Revenue Agent/Kandy", minor faults.

COLOMBO: octagonal '[crown]/COLOMBO/POST FREE/12FE12/1825' (Oxley unrecorded; Proud #OPD4 - ERD) largely very fine strike on OHMS outer to "Revenue Commissioners/Kandy". [Absent from Ted Proud's collection]
KANDY: octagonal '[crown]/KANDY/POST FREE/16MA/---9' arrival d/s (Oxley unrecorded; Ted Proud #OPD2 - ERD: recorded 10.6.1829 to 6.3.1830 only) light & watery but obvious strike in red on the face of OHMS entire endorsed "Colombo March Fourteen 1829" to "Revenue Commissioners/Kandy" with very fine octagonal '[crown]/ COLOMBO/POST FREE/15FE15/1825' d/s (Oxley unrecorded; Proud #OPD4).
KURUNEGALA: straight-line 'KURUNAGALA' (Oxley Type 2; Proud #PS1) over straight-line 'POST FREE' (Oxley as Type 2pp; Proud #OPD1 - recorded 19.7.1825-27.2.1827 only) both partly-doubled but obvious strikes on undated part-entire to Kandy.
RATNAPURA: straight-line 'RATNAPOORA' & straight-line 'FREE' (both unrecorded by both Oxley and Proud) very fine strikes on OHMS entire endorsed "Ratnapoora Catchery July Twenty one 1832" to Kandy. Ted Proud states Ratnapura opened only in 1861, while Geoff Oxley's ERD for any Ratnapura marking is 1858. Here is proof that there was a post office at Ratnapura as early as 1832. Superb! [The finest of the four similar items discovered only a few years ago]
