The Crown of Bhutanese Philately.
1920ca. The finest of two existing scarf covers from HRH the King of Bhutan to his friend Sir Charles Bell in Bumthang. Bell was Minister and administrator in Sikkim.
Throughout the history of Bhutan - as in Tibet - a runner service existed between the fortified cities of Dzongs and Lamaseries. This is one of only two recorded covers sent by Bhutan's ruler - the Dharma Rajah of Bhutan, sealed with his red wax seal showing in centre the shape of crossed Dorji. They were addressed "To be offered to the presence of my friend, the five times excellent Bell Sahib, the great Commissioner, from Buntang in Bhutan". 1954 Envelope sent from Tashigong (inland Bhutan) to Kalimpong in India, bearing 4 tranka revenue stamp on reverse with handwritten cancellation "Kanchho", four rare transit postmarks with handwritten dates alongside, extremely rare (Image)

1954 Double weight (>20g) cover from Taga Dzong to Kalimpong in India, bearing 8 tranka red revenue stamp tied by rare Taga prephilatelic cancellation, Kalimpong 3.9.54 arrival backstamp, very fine & scarce (Image)

1955ca. Official army correspondence: This fancy postmark is similar to the civilian Thimpu postmark, but text reads "Dadul Yigtsang" which reads "Suppression of Enemies Office". Most probably the letter was sent from the late Deputy Commander-In-Chief who was executed on charges of the assassination of the late Prime minister Mr. J.P. Dorji, an important item (Image)

postmarked with the fancy postmark of Thimpu. Large governmental steel engraved seal on backflap, scarce, also a more modern cover franked with a surcharged down single from 1970 having a small seal on back flap, nice duo (Image)
