BELGIAN CONGO POSTAL CARDS COLLECTION to 1919. Chronologically organised and for the most part identified by a collectors numbering system, in excellent quality virtually throughout with a variety of postmarks such as blue Banana, blue Boma, blue Matadi (no doubt black postmarks on all 3 as well), many others including Banoundu, Elisabethville, Kongolo, Leopoldville, Lisala, Lusambo, etc, etc, this is just to give a flavor of what is here. This collector has not only gone out of his way for a diverse range of postmarks, more importantly, he has systematically tried to achieve all one of a kind of every separate postal stationery issue that came out between this period to 1919, used – a tough task. Other good items include combinations of stamp and postal stationery to make the correct postal rates to various destinations. Also seen various o/ps on stationery, different strikes of the Boma carte incomplete, rectangular cancel on reply cards, the printed wavy line cancels over the inscriptions, the Congo Belge straight line overprints, additional definitives from the first issues of Belgian Congo and much more. This thick alum is also accompanied by the mint postal stationery equivalent, here with occasional minor duplication, including many different types, as well as errors such as S inverted, broken As and even items here that the collector has put a question mark to. All in all there are well over 300 items including Congo through to German occupations, etc., generally fresh and F-VF (see online scans)

BELGIAN CONGO EXCEPTION POSTAL HISTORY / POSTAL STATIONERY COLLECTION. a few 100 mostly early 20th century items, housed in 3 well packed volumes, representing an outstanding collection of postal history, also incorporating the history of the Congo under Belgian Occupation. The first album is overwhelmingly PPCs with early stamps used on the pictorial side of them. Some of the pictures include Mogandji tribe, family missionary scenes of native converts, open markets, Upper Congo rivers, views to Tanganyka, Belgian tobacco shops and liquor stores in Elisabethville, hospitals, different tribal ethnic groups including those from the French Congo, double view cards of settlements, indigenous chiefs, villagers bathing in lakes, tribal events/rituals and much more. Most of the cards in this book alone would easily sell for $30-$50+ each on Ebay. The second album is mint of the same, again with a wide variety of illustrations including palm tree stationery types on reverse and the condition, like the used, is uniformly excellent throughout. There does not seem to be much overlap of illustrations making this an extremely well filled snap shot of life in the Belgian Congo pre-1920s with huge variety. Other material includes various commercially used censor markings, registered, hardly anything at all philatelic and lots of interesting cancels including plenty of colored and small towns. The third album consists of more PPCs, again with a good number of stamps used on the front of each card, with a good cross section of scenes from Congo life including interesting protestant missions with men dressed in white, cotton product examination in front of the natives by the colonialists, Colonial minister propaganda photograph cards, ancient steamboat cards, river crossings, antelope hunts, elephants and so much more. There is also some interesting collateral including maps, historical, economic geographic resumes, stamp on stamp, monarchy propaganda, etc, etc., generally F-VF, a delightful view (see online scans)
