Austria -- Postcard of Vienna with cancel marking the visit of Adolph Hitler Clear and sharp event postmark. Hitler left Germany shortly after the German elections in 1933 to continue his efforts to unite German speaking countries as one. Hitler wanted all German-speaking nations in Europe to be a part of Germany. To this end, he had designs on re-uniting Germany with his native homeland, Austria. Under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, however, Germany and Austria were forbidden to be unified. Nice early rendering of Vienna on reverse. (Image1)
