Australia, 1849 Dublin, Ireland to Geelong, Port Phillip. Folded letter endorsed "pr First Ship", with red Dublin "Paid, Jy 31, 1848" cds and manuscript "8" rate, red London tombstone transit with ship letter backstamp, additional "Ship Letter, Melbourne" entry backstamp and "7" due rate on front for inland transit, receiving backstamp, letter with interesting content…Great preparations for the Queen, she is to be here next week. I am going to her Levee and Drawing Room…there are great and influential deputation waiting Lord John Russell upon the subject of Steam Communication with Australia…no result yet - you are also deprived of independence for another year, Very Fine.
