Australia.Israeli "no service" marks on mail to Arab states: 20 V 2003airmail postcard from SUNSHINE COAST Australia to DUBAI, franked $1.05 & tied by local machine slogan cancel; mis-routed via ISRAEL, where marked by TEL AVIV Post Office "PAS DE SERVICE Via ISRAEL" instructional marking handstamp K-Type-XII.2 & returned to sender; resent & postcard manuscript marked "rec'd 8/7/03": this is only known instance of T-XII.2 on overseas-originating mail (of 50+ such stamped mail items known).
Chad.Chadian postal boycott of Israel: 29-8-1980airmail commercial cover from JERUSALEM to local addressee MOUSSORO Chad, franked 27.15Lduring new "[Old] Shekel" currency period (starting 22 Feb 1980 - here worth 2.715 IS) & tied by 2 strikes of JERUSALEM-27 postmark (the customs section of the main postage depot in Givat Shaul - a rare department); at this time Chad under Libyan attack/occupation since 22 March (3rd Libyan incursion in Chadian-Libyan conflict/civil war of 1978-87) & capital captured 16 Dec.; cover received & stamped twice "relations suspended | return to sender" using French-language handstamp K-Type-I & returned undelivered: unclear if this is a result of Chad's suspension of relations with Israel as of Sept. 1972 (under Saudi-Libyan influence) or as a result of the then-present military crisis - the latter most likely as Chad continued to maintain discreet & close military with Israel from 1972 onward. Very unusual postal link; this is the only known example of the Chadian postal boycott, rare as from war/occupation period + Israeli currency change reflected in the postage rate. A rare instance of direct mail from Israel being refused service at the destination (and not at local post office of dispatch).
Iran.Iranian postal boycott of Israel: c. OCT 1986airmail cover from TEHRAN to HEBRON "Israel/West Bank", franked 45R & tied by unclear machine cancel; as postal relations with Israel "officially" suspended in late 1982, cover transmission halted & marked by rare Farsi instructional marking handstamp K-Type-III "BACK TO SENDER | THERE IS NO POSTAL SERVICE CONNECTION" + Iranian censor (#7) cachet & returned to sender, backstamped 1 OCT 1986 arrival. This is the only cover known with this "no service" Type-III marking in Farsi (possibly used only on domestically originating mail), obtained from former emigre who subsequently left. Vertical fold.
United States.Jordanian 'gentle' postal boycott of Israel: 29 FEB 1980airletter from SAN ANTONIO to KIBBUTZ GINNEGAR, pre-franked 22c & tied by local machine cancel; this mis-routed via JORDAN: at this time less politically charged postal markings used to refuse service, so marked with "UNSUFFICIENT(sic) ADDRESS" instructional marking handstamp (same type used on any mis-addressed mail) + red Arabic manuscript notation "Return to sender Israel!" & returned to sender; this resent & backstamped 2-5-80 GINNEGAR arrival. Few examples of postal boycott mail from Jordan exist since 1980s; this only example known stamped such.
