Jordanian post-1967 War "no service" mail to Israel: 26 MAY 1968surface mailed cover from LAKES ENTRANCE Australia to "JORDAN & JERUSALEM", franked 7c & tied by 2 strikes of local postmark; destination was now in Israel but cover routed to JORDAN per address, where backstamped 25 AUG 68 AMMAN arrival: as of Sept. '67 Jordan held back all mail destined to former Jordanian territories newly held by Israel, in AMMAN - and released it back to sender en masse 13 months later (Sept. '68); cover tied by bothK-Type-Va & Vb English & (rare) Arabic "no service" instructional marking handstamp on front and returned to sender; cover resent & received 5-11-68 JERUSALEM (backstamped) where attached with bilingual Hebrew/Arabic Israeli mimeograph K-Type-M4 on back "this postal item was received only now after having been initially misrouted. To prevent similar delays in the future please inform the sender to write VIA ISRAEL in the address" - this is earliest JERUSALEM recept date with type M4 or M5 mimeograph (of which hundreds known). Here as cover backstamped AMMANafter 7 June, cover not captured by Israel & as backstamped 29-9-67 using Israeli postmark (East JERUSALEM post office; Nacht 289/131), this cover was transferred by Red Cross. Less than 50 such covers known & rare as hard to identify (no special markings), here with Israeli receipt mark on earliest known date of receipt of mail via Red Cross.

Jordan began holding back all mail destined to former Jordanian territories newly held by Israel, in AMMAN - and then released it all back to sender en-masse 13 months later (Sept. 68), after applying an English-language "Return to Sender | Delivery Prevented by Enemy Occupation of Jordad(sic) Territory" instructional marking handstamp - here K-Type-Va & as backstamped 19 FEB 68 (proving date) this pre-dates by 7 months Kibble's earliest known period of usage (Sept. 1968), the significance of which is, such mail was marked by the instructional handstamp/s well before being returned en masse to senders. Rare: one of the earliest known covers affected by this policy & with earliest known date of instructional marking usage; prior to this, from 5 June - 12 Aug 1967 Jordan transferred such mail to Israel via the Red Cross.
