(one with corner fault) tied by Port Stanley “29 OC/28” c.d.s., both later carried on the 1931 Wilkins-Ellsworth Trans-Arctic Submarine Expedition with expedition cachet, and bearing 2c. Antarctica: Wilkins-Hearst Antarctic Expedition 1928-30: 1929, four ‘Townsend’ envelopes to the U.S.A. franked Falklands 21/2d. steel-blue or 1/2d. yellowish green and 2d. brown-purple, endorsed “By H.W.”, two tied by South Shetlands B2 Mar. 5 c.d.s. and carried on the “Fleurus”, which rescued the expedition, to Montevideo with Port Stanley Mar. 11 transit backstamp, the other two cancelled by South Georgia SG2 Mar. 20 c.d.s. and probably carried on the “Tijuca” with Montevideo Apr. 23 transit backstamp, 1929 envelope to Port Stanley bearing Falkland Islands 1d. tied by fine strike of the “Wilkins Antarctic/Expedition/Deception/Island” cachet in violet, backstamped Apr. 30 arrival, and 1931 Wilkins-Ellsworth Trans-Arctic Submarine Expedition, two covers bearing U.S. 2c. cancelled New York May 8 and carried to 82 degrees North before the abandonment of the expedition, one an expedition envelope with cachet registered for return to New York with added G.B. 11/2d. and 3d. sent Oct. 19 with Oct. 28 arrival backstamps, the other cover with cachet and added 11/2d. cancelled Oct. 3 for return to Texas.
