Antarctica: Second Byrd Expedition 1933-35: Three expedition envelopes with enclosed letters, the first a Paramount Pictures cover with large expedition and “Bear of Oakland” cachets, sent 1934 (Jan. 31) by photographer John L. Herrmann to Christchurch, the others 1935 (Jan. 28) to Kansas City from meteorologist George Grimminger franked uncancelled 3c. but with San Francisco Mar. 25 transit and (a little snail eaten at right) sent to Burke’s Pass, New Zealand by Byrd’s personal representative John McNeil, the letter on New York base stationery but written on Jan. 28 whilst lying off in the Bay of Whales, with 3c. pair cancelled Little America Jan. 30 duplex, both with “SECOND CANCELLATION/MAIL” penguin cachet, each cover a little stained.
