Antarctica: British Antarctic Expedition 1910-13: Victoria Land 1d. mint singles (4), one with no stop after “LAND” [R. 7/5], a little heavily mounted, another with raised “IA” in “VICTORIA” [R. 2/12], and two unmounted mint blocks of four, one showing partial trace of double overprint, the other lower marginal and incl. ‘comma’ for stop (faint tone spot clear of variety), mostly fine. Drake, franked Victoria Land 1d. cancelled by Feb. 9 1911 expedition c.d.s., opening day of the post office at Cape Evans, with Lyttelton Mar. 31 transit on reverse, together with original enclosure also showing c.d.s., also Victoria Land 1d. tied by Jan. 18 1913 expedition c.d.s. (fixed at the time of arrival of the “Terra Nova” at Cape Evans) to expedition stationery sheet, some creases and faint stains. Antarctica: British Antarctic Expedition 1910-13: Envelope addressed by Lieutenant Teddy Evans to Cardiff franked by Victoria Land 1d. pair tied by Expedition “JA 18/13” c.d.s’s, roughly opened and partly repaired. Lieutenant Edward R.G.R. Evans, R.N., later Lord Mountevans (1880-1957), was second-in-command of the expedition and captain of the “Terra Nova”. He accompanied Scott to within 150 miles of the Pole, but later became seriously ill with scurvy and was invalided home, only narrowly surviving the return journey. Photo. (Image1)

Antarctica: British Expedition 1910-13: Hand-delivered envelope addressed to a young collector with 1932 (Oct. 24) personal letter from Official Representative Joseph Kinsey in Christchurch, together with another from her father, enclosing Victoria Land 1/2d. and 1d. used, also two postcards addressed to Kinsey bearing King Edward VII Land 1d. and unoverprinted 1d. Universal respectively, both cancelled by expedition “FE 27/08” c.d.s. and unused postcard (a few tone spots on reverse) of the “Nimrod” (Wharton GA-4). Sir Joseph James Kinsey (1852-1936), founder of the shipping firm of Kinsey, Barns & Co., was a close personal friend of Capt. Scott and had served as attorney for the “Discovery”, “Nimrod”, “Terra Nova” and “Aurora” relief expeditions, in recognition of which he was awarded the Scott Medal by the R.G.S. in 1914 and a knighthood in 1919.
