(embossing on flap; flap detached & reaffixed) to Scotland and franked 'VICTORIA/LAND.' opts on N.Zealand 1d Universal (SG £120 off cover, unpriced on cover) and tied by "BRIT.ANTARCTIC EXPD." cds. Addressed to Mrs Bowers, mother of Lieut H.R.Bowers who perished with Scott on their return from the South Pole a few weeks later. Scarce commercial & authentic use of this stationery & stamp. Note: the handwriting is rather similar to that of a cover written by Robert Scott that sold in our Sep. 2002 sale. (Image)
