1866 (Nov 5) Registered cover to Bucharest, endorsed "cu retur Recipisa" (acknowledgment of receipt) franked with three single 20par black on pink thick paper (two front and one to the reverse) cancelled and tied by a GR1 type "gratar simplu" cancellation, with a "Ploesti" cds dated 5th Nov to the front, and "Recomandat" rectangular, a scarce 60 parale rate; which according to the 1865 postal rates 20 parale was the rate for domestic letters, 20 parale was the registration service and 20 parale the rate for the "acknowledgement for receipt" service; tear to cover vertically on the left side, scarce franking with the acknowledgement of receipt fee; ex Odor (1936). 1866 20par black on rose thick paper, the superb and fresh mint block of ten, with full original gum without blemish, the largest known multiple of this stamp, which exhibits all three of the S.G. and Scott listed types, exceptional quality, unique and the most important item of 20par on thick paper; a block of nine was part of the Cornelia collection and was described as the largest known multiple and sold in 2007 for 5,400CHF; cert. 1866 20par on thin paper from stone C in almost full mint sheet (one stamp removed at bottom left), except for a few normal creases as to be expected where the sheet has been folded it is in very good condition, ideal for the specialist with numerous plate flaws indicating a very worn printing, very rare with the major name sales of the past years missing such an item and hence a major rarity of Romania, cert. 1865 20par black on rose red thin paper, unused block of 60 from the upper left hand corner of the printing sheet, printed from Stone E, showing spectacular variety "small moon in front of forehead" and broken "I" in "DECI" on row 3/19 (similar to the variety mentioned in the Heimbüchler handbook p.186), a rare block from this scarce printing; we have no record of another large block exhibiting this plate flaw. 1867 (Oct 16) Mourning cover sent to Brasov (Transylvania, Austria) franked with a 20par black on light pink paper, four good to large margins, tied by a black GR1 "gratar simplu" cancellation, with "Calarasi" cds and Austrian post "Porto" to front, the letter originating from Silistra in Bulgaria being mailed from across the Danube via the neighbouring town of Calarasi, the letter being directed to Bucharest by the Romanian post, then passed to the Austrian post who delivered it with a 20 kreuzers surcharge, a transit "Bucuresci Diminieata" dated 16th Oct, an undated Austria post "Porto" and an arrival "Brasso" dated May 18, vertical filing crease, otherwise very fine; pre-postal treaty covers to Austria franked with the 1866 issue are particularly rare, this originating from Bulgaria being unique; cert. 1871 (Dec 6) Registered cover to Curtea de Arges, forwarded to Bucharest, franked at the 40 bani rate, made up of a 10b blue to the front and a strip of three 10b blue to the reverse, all large to very large four margins, tied by "Slatina" cds in blue dated Dec 6, addressed to "His Holiness the Bishop of Arges at Curtea de Arge" (the headquarters of the Arges diocese), redirected "To Bucharest / Church Icona", with a three day delay, on the reverse "Pitesti" in blue dated Dec 7, a "Curtea de Arges" in black dated Dec 9, and the "Bucuresci Dup'Amiadi" in black dated Dec 12; very rare franking with 30 bani fee for registration fee fixed to the reverse with a strip of three 10b and 10b paying the domestic postage rate; probably a unique item in such outstanding condition; ex Odor (1936).
