MOVABLE BOX MAIL FROM EGYPT; 11 May 1859 env. to Kent franked 6d + strip of three 1d with individual 'A25' cancels - normally only used on registered mail and eight months earlier than recorded by Parmenter et al (2016) - and tied by a London Paid cds. Rear with a chamfered-framed "MALTA/MB" d.s. and London SE cds. Believed written on the Bengal and placed in a Movable Box on the Pera and delivered to the Malta PO where sent via Marseilles for ¼ oz. rate. Uncommon example of this service. FRANKED & CASH-PAID MAIL TO SICILY; Very unusual 21 Nov. 1878 env. (roughly opened at left and refolded) to Sicily franked 2d Blue Pl. 15 tied by fine 'A25' barred cancel with ms. '½' alongside representing additional cash payment for the ½ oz. rate. "MALTA/PAID" arc d.s. on front and two Italian d.s. on rear. Rare.
