PRESTONPANS 18th/19th CENTURY MAIL; Group with 11 July 1787 EL (posted 9 Oct. 1787!) to Haddington with very early use of a very fine "Prefton Pans" mark (unofficial post period) on the flap just overlapped by a fine red Edinburgh transit Bishop Mark [ex Bruce Auckland], 1814/5 pair with scarce boxed "P.P.O." mileage in red (superb!) or black (mainly fine), 1803/13/18/19 "UNPAID" types (latter two with distinctive v. fine h.s. "2") and 1829 E to Kirkcaldy with framed "PAID/at/P.PANS" and endorsed 'More to pay' at top and charged a further '6'(d). Scarce group. Sold in our Mar. 2012 sale for £420.
