WWI AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE (A.E.F.) WELFARE ORGANISATIONS - THE POSTAL STATIONERY: The collection of mainly 1918/19 printed cards and covers (all used) with the logos of the American Red Cross (5), the Young Mens Christian Associations (9), Knights of Columbus (4) and the Salvation Army (1). Includes early example of ARC env. inscribed "SOLDIERS MAIL" & "NO POSTAGE NECESSARY" enclosing card inscribed "THE SHIP ON WHICH I SAILED HAS ARRIVED SAFELY OVERSEAS". Several different examples of the triangular YMCA logo, incl. examples with the addl. wording "AMERICAN", "WITH THE COLORS" or "OFFICERS CLUB" (this latter cover ex Camp Dix, New Jersey). Lot also incl. an American music sheet of the period entitled "Salvation Lassie of Mine" and articles from the Postal History Society journal written by David Trapnell providing more information on these Organisations. WWII ITALIAN RED CROSS MESSAGE SCHEME INCL. ITALIAN SOMALIA & ERITREA: May-Nov. 1944 group of 5 Red Cross enquiry forms (4 Italian, 1 French). Includes 28 Sep. 1944 form from Mogadishu to Savona, censored in Cairo (nearest Red Cross Censor office) with purple 'hexagon in circle' h/s, arrival date 26 Dec. 1944. Also, 31 Aug. 1944 enquiry form inscribed "CROCE ROSSA ITALIANA/COMITATO DELL' ERITREA" sent from Asmara to Modena. Lot includes a French Red Cross enquiry form with a Palermo address, possibly an Italian POW from the occupying force in SE France. Also 2 other Italian forms and an unused PPC. Scarce items.
