BDE FIELD P.O." c.d.s applied at sea, the cover with 24 Oct. c.d.s and "1d" charge mark, the card with 24 Nov c.d.s, the interesting message including "the Sydney, one of our escort sank the Emden & her collier the other day only 18 miles away". Also a cover with the same c.d.s of 17 Dec. used just after the troops arrival in Egypt. (3).

MAHENO / N.Z" c.d.s applied below, with blue "PASSED BY CENSOR" and "..... COLONEL N.Z.M.C / O.C Troops H.M.N.Z. Hospital Ship Maheno" (signed "R. 1914 Stampless filing card (circular hole at base, produced as such prior to use), used as a postcard to Scotland with superb violet oval "N.Z MILITARY POST OFFICE / TROOPSHIP No. 8 / DEC 1 1914 / EXPEDITIONARY FORCE" applied on "Star of India"; stampless Ceylon postcard with similar oval handstamp of Troopship No. 12 in violet, dated Nov 25 1914, used on the "Waimena"; and a postcard bearing Egypt 4m tied by this violet oval datestamp with "Troopship No. 12" excised, strangely dated "SAT 9 1915", recorded used by the N.Z Mounted Brigade F.P.O at Zeitoun for just 15 days (5-19 Jan, 1915). The first with vertical fold and corner fold to second, otherwise fine, a scarce group. (3).
