Covers and Postal History. c.1880-1985 Covers and cards (61) including India used in Zanzibar, French P.O, incoming and transit mail, postal stationery, 1954 Ngambo c.d.s, 1916 Paquebot, etc. Also piece with four Germany 20pf stamps tied by German P.O datestamps (S.G. Z18a, £640), and a few cancels on stamps. (62+).

1883 (Sep 5-16) Cover to England dated "Sept. 16th" on the front, carried to England by naval bag with G.B 1881 5d Indigo cancelled "FB" in the London Foreign Branch, Torquay arrival backstamp (Oct 8). The long enclosed letter written by Lt G.W Russell on H.M.S "Tourmaline" commencing at sea on Sept. 5th, the bulk of the letter then written at Zanzibar on Sept. 14th - 16th, with excellent content describing two evenings dining with the Sultan at his palace, a display of fireworks, the visit of the Sultan to the British Squadron and descriptions of Zanzibar town, the people and the Sultan's soldiers and bodyguard. 1904-50 Covers and cards including 1907 registered cover to USA franked ½a + 2a (2), 1937 cover with "Zanzibar Protectorate Found Open and Officially Sealed" label, 1950 cover from Tanganyika with boxed "DECEASED / DECEDE" and "RETOUR", 1927 postcard from G.B with Chakichaki arrival c.d.s, 1928 Zanzibar card with G.B 1½d tied by London Received From H.M Ships machine, 1936 registered cover franked 7s.50 and 10s, 1945 formula air letter, etc., also a 1958 receipt. Mkokotoni. 1934 Stampless official registered cover to The Treasurer, Zanzibar, with official franking cachet, "MKOKOTONI" c.d.s and boxed "R / MKOKOTONI ZANZIBAR" registration handstamp. Scarce, only restricted postal business conducted at this small district office.
