1915 Stampless cover to "Maulid bin Ali Esq., c/o H.B.M Court, Zanzibar" endorsed "Per S/S Tuna", handstamped violet "G.R. / POST / 6 CENTS / MAFIA", bearing a green "OPENED BY CENSOR / UNDER / MARTIAL LAW" seal. A rare use of this 6 Cents handstamp to show postage paid in cash on a cover handed in at the military post office. The same handstamp was used in May 1915 to surcharge German East Africa stamps. 1915-16 Stamps used, comprising I.E.F 3a with type M4 overprint in green (S.G. M38, with 1981 B.P.A Certificate), 2a, 3a and 4a with violet type M5 overprints (S.G. M46, 48/9) all with Mafia datestamps backdated to 1916, and 8a, 2a6p both with circular "MAFIA" cancels of 1916. Also 1r with a forged Mafia overprint and cancel. S.G. £600+. (7).

1917 (Apr) 1.E.F 3p - 3a Mint with type M5 Mafia overprints in violet, 1a with light crease, ½a, 2a and 2a6p with a few toned perfs, the 2a and 3a with some paper adhering to reverse, the ½a and 2a - 3a all with small ownership handstamp of King Carol of Romania. 1917 (Apr) 1.E.F 3a with upper gutter margin used on piece, the stamp and margin both with type M5 Mafia overprint applied in violet to the stamp and in green to the margin, cancelled by part Mafia double ring datestamp. Rare and unusual, the overprint apparently applied once on each sheet within the gutter margin prior to the stamps being overprinted, therefore sometimes occurring in a differing colour to the stamp overprint, very few examples recorded.
