Cinderellas. 1944-71 Easter Charity labels, sold to raise funds to help disabled children, the fine collection in two albums and on pages with proofs and colour trials, mint and used labels, booklets, labels used on covers, imperforate and misplaced colour varieties, associated ephemera, etc. An excellent lot with many unusual items. Postal Stationery - Air Letters. 1941-c.2000 Used and unused air letters, the collection in four albums, well written up with differing paper types, cutting, surcharge types, etc., fully described. (100s).

Boer War. P.O.W Ships. 1900-01 Covers, one endorsed from a Boer P.O.W on the "Hawarden Castle" with L. Heyman censor cachet, the others to P.O.Ws on the "Mongolian", "Catalonia", "Armenian", "Manila" or "City of Cambridge" at Durban, Simons Town or en route to Bombay, a few faults. (6).

P.O.W Mail. 1901-04 Covers and cards including picture postcard with a printed map and arms of St. Helena, a copy of a card painted by a P.O.W in 1902, hand coloured, posted from St. Helena in 1904; 1901 stampless cover from Ladysmith to Green Point Camp with triangular "PASSED / CENSOR / P. OF W.", picture postcards of Broad Bottom Camp, Colenso Refugee Camp, etc. (8).

P.O.W Mail. 1900-02 Covers from P.O.Ws in Cape Town (3, probably from P.O.W ships) or to Greenpoint Camp (2) all with boxed "CENSOR PRISONERS OF WAR / L. Heyman / Lt. Col."; covers from (4) or to (2) Tin Town Camp at Ladysmith, various censors; cover from Durban to Edenburg strangely with a Ladysmith Prisoners of War censor cachet; and a cover from Umbilo Camp, the last with faults, otherwise mainly fine. 1900 (Jan 21 - Dec 16) 32 Page diary kept by Trooper Crook of the North Somerset Imperial Yeomanry, with details of conditions in the field and various actions, looting stores at Bloemfontein, acting as one of a four man escort to Lord Roberts and his family, later war events briefly listed on a separate sheet. Also a cabinet Photo of Crook in uniform.

1900 (Mar 3) - 1901 (Mar 10) Small but well filled diary kept by an officer, apparently in the Volunteer Battalion, Royal West Kent Regt., 85 pages with good content detailing engagements with the Boers, marching up country, etc.

Col. H.E Belfield. 1900 (Jan 18) - 1902 (June 29) c.150 Page diary kept by Belfield from his arrival in South Africa until shortly after the war, detailing his initial service on General Tucker's staff, transfer in February 1900 to Lord Methuen's staff where he served as Asst. Adjutant General, and service as Inspector General of Imperial Yeomanry towards the end of the war. Also 140+ letters to his wife, mostly written whilst pursuing General De Wet and then General De la Rey in the veldt. An interesting diary and letter group which includes an eyewitness account of the action at Klipdrift during which Methuen was wounded and captured.

1899 (Oct 27) - 1900 (Sep 28) Telegrams from the Central Telegraph Office in London to Wellingborough each with the day's war news, the messages all transcribed on an accompanying list. (445).

Lady Sarah Wilson/Baden Powell. 1900 (Mar 28) Letter sent by an autograph collector in England to Lady Sarah Wilson in Mafeking, full of patriotic sentiments and praise for Lady Sarah, illustrated with drawings of Baden-Powell, a Union Jack, and a map of the route to Mafeking, unusual.

Emily Hobhouse. 1902 (Oct 18) Letter written and signed by Emily Hobhouse, the campaigner against the Refugee and Concentration Camps in South Africa. Written from 21 Rossetti Mansions, Chelsea S.W to Mr Blagden, a veteran of previous South African wars, who had written to Hobhouse asking for a keepsake. A fine and scarce letter, which includes the poem "The Fruites of Warre" by Gascoigne.

British Army Commanders. 1899-1938 Letters and documents signed by leading British Officers during the Boer War, comprising 1904 letter from R. Pole-Carew written from Government House in Cork; 1927 letter from H. Smith Dorien written from France; 1938 letter from Col. A. Weston Jarvis; 1901 Pass issued by the Military Governors Office in Pretoria signed by Major General Maxwell; 1899 letter from N.G Lyttelton on Commander in Chief notepaper of the War Office London (also a signature on piece); 1909 letter from Sir George White V.C on Royal Hospital Chelsea notepaper; 1902 letter from Archibald Hunter on Balmoral Castle notepaper; 1902 letter from H. Hildyard written from Aldershot; 1924 letter from Field Marshall Sir John French, 1st Earl Ypres (signed "Ypres") written from Paris to General Sir John Barker; undated letter from Lord Wolseley, on notepaper of The Manor House, Haslemere; 1901 letters from Sir Ian Hamilton (2) both on notepaper of the Commander in Chief, War Office London, one with an envelope; 1875 letter from Lord Methuen on Corsham Court notepaper. Herbert Smith-Dorien. 1901 Photo mounted on card (20x25cm), boldly signed and inscribed "H.L Smith-Dorien, To Jesse Cooke, 24th June 1901".

Lord Roberts. 1883 (Dec 12) Four page letter written from Camp Fort St. George to Mrs Fenton concerning her son's service in the Indian army, a fine letter from India.

Original Drawings. Signed self portrait by Major George E. Giles in pencil ink and watercolour, dressed in 'bush' uniform; ink drawing of an officer on horseback by R. Bardsley; and an ink caricature of a Boer soldier with his grandson by Henri Somm. (3)

T.S Crowther. 1900 Pen and ink drawings, British soldiers with stretchers crossing a river under a flag of truce to collect Boer wounded; and soldiers relaxing in camp listening to a violin player. Published in The Daily Graphic for 28th March 1900, the two drawings on a single piece of card, together 263x295mm. Fine and attractive.

Herbert Johnson. Pen and ink drawings, "Making Gun Epaulments for 69 Battery R.F.A at Nkandhla", "Ambulance with wounded arriving at Nkandhla" and "Court House, Nkandhla used as a hospital for wounded from Itala". Three fine drawings showing the aftermath of the fight for Mount Itala in Zululand, published in The Daily Graphic for 23rd November 1901. The three drawings on a single piece of card, together 296x327mm. Fine and attractive.

Jones. 1900 Pen and ink drawing of cheering soldiers holding their hats aloft, reverse inscribed "The Queens Regiment giving three cheers for Queen at Ingogo Heights Natal to celebrate her Birthday 24 May 1900 (morn)".
