POSTAL CARDS: 1905 Provisional Issue 1d deep blue with Admonition "Available only for the Commonwealth..." handstamped 'ALSO AVAILABLE FOR UNITED KINGDOM WITHOUT EXTRA POSTAGE.' in violet PC12, a couple of very minor blemishes, unused. [These provisional cards were produced in very small numbers: Brian Pope estimates that 240 each of the ½d & 1d were produced & a mere 50 of the 1d+1d Reply Card. Most examples seen of any of these rare cards are defective. Margaret Hamilton's examples of the ½d (uprated) and 1d unused (as here) & 1d used, sold at our auction of 30.3.1999 for $6875, $7150 & $7975 respectively. Her unused 1d+1d sold at the same auction for $8250. They were all acquired by the same buyer who, it is believed, intends to donate his collection to an institution]

Cat No:6

1854-55 Lithographs Pin-Perforated 17 4d deep dull blue, pin-perf on all sides (a bit irregular at L/R), 15-bar '18' of Bunbury in blue as always. Unlisted by Gibbons: see the first footnote below SG 6. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2022) states "genuine in all respects...very deep shade, probably from litho stone 1, 1st printing. Extremely rare with only several recorded". [As noted on the certificate, the 'deep dull blue' stamps are from the first printing, so should be listed by Gibbons as SG 3, not 3b. It's also long overdue for the pin-perforated stamps to be properly catalogued. Cecil Walkley's example of exceptional appearance but with a minor thin sold at our auction of 14.4.2005 for $875]
