Perth: Double-oval 'SPECIAL INQUIRY & DETECTIVE OFFICE/30MAR12/GPO PERTH WA' two largely superb strikes in violet tying ½d x5 to PO 'Declaration...relating to a Missing Letter...containing a Valuable Enclosure Unregistered', the form is significantly aged but is the only recorded example. Datestamp unrecorded in PMI. [The missing letter contained a 5/- Postal Note payable to the Queensland Insurance Co at Perth, the sender stating that registration of such as item was not required, although he probably regretted not paying the extra 3d]

1854 Penny Black Imperf 1d SG 1 block of 4, margins just shaved at centre-right to large, four fine strikes of a void grid canceller, Cat £1300++. A rare and very desirable multiple. [Far superior to Dr Cecil Walkley's only used block of 4 that sold at the Prestige auction of 14.4.2005 for $1864. 'Besancon' had a couple of pairs only. Lord Vestey had two blocks of 6 (one on the reverse of a cover!) but no blocks of 4]

1854-88 Penny Issues with various Double Tail varieties including an enormous Imperf 1d black with margins clear to huge with portions of four adjoining units, in a CA Perf 14 1d yellow-ochre block of 4 (a scarce multiple) through to 1888 New Colours 1d carmine pink x2 (one in a pair), difficult to assemble. [JRW Purves (1944) identified & plated three Extended Tail Pre-Entries. This group comprises Purves' Type 1 x5, Type 2 x4 & Type 3 x5] (Qty 14 items)

1854 Penny Black Rouletted 1d black SG 2, rouletting at left & right, the design just shaved at upper-right, minor thins, Cat £750; and Litho Rouletted 4d blue SG 5a, traces of rouletting on three sides - into the design at the base - & imperf at right with a fragment of the adjoining unit, unused, Cat £4000 for the pale blue shade ("blue" unpriced unused by Gibbons). BPA Cetificate (1949) for the 4d as the then SG 12 states "is genuine". (2)
