1860 (May 2) entire from digger Eugene Ross to Melbourne with 4d Emblem perf 12 SG.87 tied by fine BN '43' (Rated 3R), on reverse FRYER'S CREEK 'MY2/1860' crown oval departure datestamp (also Rated 3R) and MELBOURNE code 'A' arrival datestamp. [Eugene Ross was a co-discoverer, with 5 other fellow diggers, of the Elysian Flat diggings on the Whipstick goldfield in 1851, thirteen years later in 1864 he shared a Rewards Committee award of £350 for the discovery, a photocopy of a cutting from 1864 Victoria Blue Book of Statistics showing the award is included] (Image)
